The Nissan Xterra is an off-road vehicle. The Xterra’s V6 engine has plenty of power for passing on the highway, off-roading and towing. Rear-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission come standard. Four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission are available. Fuel economy is on par with other off-road SUVs, but it’s poor for the compact SUV class overall. Expect 15-16 mpg in the city and 20-22 mpg on the highway.
