MINI PACEMAN,

Overview

The Mini Paceman is a decent car but it doesn't look that great when you compare it to other used subcompacts. The Mini Paceman provides a good driving experience thanks to its punchy available engines and agile handling. However, when it comes to ride quality and tech offerings, other small cars are better. The Paceman also trails the competition in more practical measures, like cargo space and fuel economy.

Inside

The Paceman seats four. The front seats are high, which provides a great driving position. The rear seats can fit adults reasonably well but they can get uncomfortable on longer drives. The Paceman has two full sets of LATCH child-seat connectors on the second-row outboard seats. The setup has not been evaluated for its ease of use. Standard features in the Mini Paceman include a USB port, Bluetooth, HD Radio, an auxiliary audio input, and push-button start. Available features include satellite radio, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon sound system, rear parking sensors, navigation, and the Mini Connected voice-controlled infotainment system with Smartphone app integration and a 6.5-inch display.

Driving

The Paceman comes standard with a 121-horsepower four-cylinder engine. It’s paired with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic is available. There are other powertrain options as well. Both are turbocharged four-cylinders, and they put out 181 horsepower (Cooper S trim) and 208 horsepower (John Cooper Works, or JCW, trim). The base engine feels a bit weak and the turbo-fours deliver more energetic acceleration. The Paceman provides sharp handling. The brakes are strong as well but the ride is stiffer than in some rivals. Front-wheel drive comes standard and Mini's ALL4 all-wheel-drive system is available.
