PEUGEOT 308 SW,

Overview

The Peugeot 308 SW is a compact estate that's based on the 308 hatchback. It has car's efficient engine range, elegant looks and generous equipment levels. As well as having a longer rear end, the 308 SW has a slightly longer wheelbase than the hatch and helps to make it one of the most spacious estates in the class

Inside

The dashboard is much better than in the previous 308. It’s far less cluttered with a large 9.7-inch touchscreen controlling much of the car’s systems and functions inside. Its integration means there are far fewer fiddly buttons to poke on the dashboard and centre console and its graphics were improved. Available in Active, Allure, Tech Edition, GT Line and GT specs, the 308 SW offers buyers plenty of choice. Even the basic Active model has equipment like climate control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, sat nav, DAB digital radio and rear parking sensors. Allure gets all-round parking sensors, power-folding mirrors and a panoramic sunroof. GT Line and GT models have 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, along with discreet GT styling kits.

Driving

There are six engines available to 308 SW buyers in total: three petrol and three diesels. Some are restricted to certain gearboxes and trim levels, but overall. The SW's soft suspension means there's some body lean in corners, but this is understandable given the car is so comfortable, particularly at cruising speeds. The manual gearboxes aren't very satisfying to use and the steering isn't particularly involving either but for most buyers the driving experience won't be as important as the car's practicality. The best petrol engine is the 1.2-litre PureTech 130, which produces 129bhp despite its small size. It's a smooth and quiet engine that's good fun to drive on the road.
