PEUGEOT 508 SW,

Overview

The Peugeot 508 SW estate version builds on the saloon's has impressive abilities. It's spacious, comfortable and good to look at, with a decent loading bay. There are plenty of clever features too, like the automatic motorised boot, a hidden rear storage compartment and the optional head-up display that rises from the dash.

Inside

The Peugeot 106 entry-level Active models enjoy sat nav, DAB, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with dual-zone climate control but Allure upgrades the main screen from eight to 10 inches and adds a rear-view camera. GT Line gives the 508 SW a new persona, thanks to a new grille, fang-like LED daytime running lights, LED headlights and 'Claw Effect' LED rear lights. The range-topping GT includes Nappa leather upholstery, folding door mirrors, a powered boot, adaptive cruise control, electric seat adjustment and a Focal stereo system. It boot space measures 530 litres behind the seats or 1,780 litres when they're folded flat

Driving

The 508 SW rides with the comfort without feeling too soft in corners. It might not be as sharp as a BMW 3 Series Touring but the Peugeot feels balanced and makes an easy, relaxing car to drive. A small steering wheel provides a feeling of agility missing from the old Peugeot 508, even if the steering itself is a bit light and short on feel. Just one 1.6-litre PureTech petrol turbo is available, in 179 or 218bhp guises, with the latter restricted to pricey range-topping trim levels and improving the 0-62mph time from eight seconds to 7.4. Both petrol engines come fitted with Peugeot's eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. A new hybrid version pairs the 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 11.8kWh lithium-ion battery.
