The Volvo S80 is a good car; it rewards passengers with a supple ride, a quiet cabin, and cozy seats. It also returns excellent fuel economy and offers a long list of advanced safety features. The S80 rates poorly for reliability and its dated styling and conservative performance leave something to be desired.

The Volvo S80 sedan seats five. Its front seats are exceptionally comfortable and provide fine support. The rear seats are plush and nicely contoured as well, though not as spacious as many others in the luxury midsize car class. Leather upholstery and heated front seats are standard; ventilated front seats and heated rear seats are available. The S80 has two full sets of LATCH connectors for securing child car seats. All S80s come with a 7-inch infotainment screen, a navigation system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Available features include a Harman Kardon stereo.

The Volvo S80 has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 240 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard. This “Drive-E” engine feels refined and enables confident acceleration; zero to 60 mph takes just under seven seconds. The transmission downshifts promptly as well, giving the S80 decent passing power on the freeway. The S80 has a comfortable and supple ride, thanks to its pliant suspension, which does an excellent job of smoothing out bumps and dips in the road. Its steering feels light and vague.
